United next travelled to North Ferriby United on 28th July 2015 at their Eon Visual Media Stadium at Church Lane in North Ferriby near Kingston-upon-Hull. The Leeds team started with: Charlie Horton; Lewie Coyle, Tyler Denton; Alex Purver, Ross Killock, Jake Skelton; Lewis Walters, Chris Dawson, Eoghan Stokes, Lee Erwin, Nicky Ajose. There was a crowd of 283 that saw the home team get off to the better start and it was certainly against the run of play that Leeds took the lead after twenty-four minutes when Lee Erwin made a quick break down the right flank and his cross has hammered into the net by Eoghan Stokes. Leeds then had a spell in charge before the home side came back into the game and were the better team for the final ten minutes of the first half which saw them trail by 0-1. However, the home side equalised ten minutes into the second half, when Charlie Horton made a fine save from an Adam Bolder free-kick, but unfortunately for the keeper the ball reached Ash Palmer, who scored from close range. Two minutes later they got the lead they deserved when Lewie Coyle brought down Curtis Bateson in the penalty area and Liam King rifled the ball home from the spot despite a despairing dive by Charlie Horton. After that Leeds made many changes but they did not affect them suffering a 2-1 defeat. Frank Mulhern replaced Lee Erwin after sixty minutes followed closely by Luke Parkin for Nicky Ajose a minute later. The sixty-second minute saw a double substitution with Eric Grimes replacing Charlie Horton in goal and Jack Vann replacing Lewie Coyle at right back. There was a further double substitution in the seventy-seventh minute as Tom Lyman replaced Chris Dawson and Robbie McDaid came on for Eoghan Stokes. Tom Pearce and Mike Taylor remained unused on the Leeds bench. The North Ferriby United starting eleven was: Adam Nicklin; Ben Middleton, Tom Davie; Liam King, Ash Palmer, Danny Hone; Danny Emerton, Russell Fry, Tom Denton, Nathan Hotte, Curtis Bateson. They sent on Josh Wilde for Tom Davie and Adam Bolder for Russell Fry at half-time, while Ryan Kendall took Tom Denton's place after sixty minutes. After sixty-three minutes, Jamie Forrester came on for Danny Emerton and two minutes later Tim Taylor replaced Liam King followed a further two minutes later by Mark Gray replacing Ash Palmer. There was a double substitution in the seventy-first minutes with Louis Bruce coming on for Danny Hone and Ross Armstrong for Nathan Hotte, bfore another double change four minutes later with Tom Nicholson taking over in goals from Adam Nicklin and Lewis Clarkson from Curtis Bateson.

Ferriby gave a polished and determined performance to defeat a Leeds United under-Under-Twenty-One side containing a number of players with first-team experience. The Villagers pressed back Leeds from the start with Liam King and Russ Fry both off-target. In between these efforts, Curtis Bateson was unlucky when he charged down a Horton clearance only for the ball to run towards the touchline. On six minutes Tom Davie crossed for Tom Denton to head down to Nathan Hotte whose shot on the turn went straight to Horton. Leeds responded with a header from lewis Walters that was comfortably saved by Adam Nicklin. Lee Erwin put a half-chance wide from 18 yards then Alex Purver latched on to a headed clearance to hit a shot at Nicklin. Ferriby were still enjoying rather more ball but Leeds were quick to break and their pace tested The Villagers defence. Rather against the run-of-play, Leeds took the lead on twenty-four minutes. A quick break by Erwin down the right saw his cross hammered home by Eoghan Stokes. The visitors then had their best spell of the half with Stokes and Erwin both firing shots at Nicklin. The final ten minutes of the half largely belonged to Ferriby. Russ Fry went close twice. First a free-kick dipped over the bar then Horton produced a fine two-handed diving save. Fry’s deadball kicks caused problems throughout the half for Leeds’ defence and on the stroke of half-time he was once again denied by Horton. The second-half was a rather more high tempo game. Ash Palmer headed wide before finally finding the back of the net after fifty-five minutes. Adam Bolder’s free-kick was superbly saved by Horton but, unfortunately for the keeper, the ball reached Palmer who calmly scored from close-range. This was no more than Ferriby deserved but there was an even bigger surprise for Leeds two minutes later. Lewis Coyle brought down Curtis Bateson in the area and Liam king stepped-up to hammer the penalty home past Horton’s despairing dive. These goals spurred Leeds to up the tempo. As the half progressed, Nicklin produced a fine reaction save to Luke Parkin’s close-range shot and Robbie McDaid hit a shot at substitute keeper Tom Nicholson. Leeds should have equalised after seventy-eight minutes. Good work down the right presented frank Mulhern with a glorious chance six yards out but he fired over. The second-half was certainly a competitive affair with neither side willing to give an inch. There was determined and gritty tackling from both midfields and defences. Jamie Forrester almost wrapped the game up for Ferriby in added time but his shot was superbly saved by substitute keeper Eric Grimes. This was a really good display by Ferriby who battled well against a skilful Leeds side. The Villagers themselves played some good football in a game that was a credit to both sides.
Ferriby manager Billy Heath commented, “I’m obviously delighted with the win. We showed great character to come back from a goal down at half-time. The two goals obviously stung Leeds and they upped the pace. However, we defended well in both halves against a side that was quick on the break. We played some very good football going forward and I think we were well-worth the win.”

Leeds United talent Eoghan Stokes scores again to continue impressive pre-season. The talented forward has been finding the net regularly for Leeds' development team this summer. Recently Leeds United have picked up a reputation for producing some top young talent. The likes of Alex Mowatt, Sam Byram, Charlie Taylor and Lewis Cook are all currently members of the first-team at the club and the likes of Lewis Walters and Kalvin Phillips are looking like coming through the ranks. But one name to be keeping an eye on this season is Eoghan Stokes. Last night Leeds United’s development team took on non-league side North Ferriby United in a friendly. They lost the game 2-1, even with Lee Erwin and Nicky Ajose in the starting line-up. The goal came from Stokes, netting against last season’s FA Trophy winners. Stokes has been in excellent form recently. The nineteen-year-old scored a week ago today against Pickering Town in a 4-0 win, hitting a brace against the club. Stokes unfortunately is a forward, which for him is bad news, considering the plethora of attacking options on offer to Uwe Rosler at Elland Road currently. However, given the recent performances of the young graduates at Leeds, Rosler might be thinking about the teenager ahead of the new campaign. Another idea is perhaps to send him out on loan considering his recent development and Leeds do seem to have another talented player on their hands.
